What can I do in my Orlando apartment if I’m social distancing?

If you're social distancing at Charter Pointe, these are some ways to spend your time.

The situation with COVID-19 is changing quickly, and it seems like the next news release is always just a few minutes away. Right now, residents in Orlando are being asked to practice "social distancing," which according to the Orlando Sentinel, is "a fancy way of saying you're avoiding close contact with others. That means no mass gatherings or any other meet-ups in places where people may congregate. If you absolutely must be out in public, maintain a 6-foot radius of personal space."

So you're doing your part by staying at home, but it can begin to feel boring, frustrating and isolating (among other things). To make the most of your time spent in one of the apartments in Orlando, here are a few things you can do:

  • Develop your hobbies. Whether you would love to catch up on your pile of unread books or your pile of needlepoint projects, use your time at home to do something you enjoy. If your hobbies aren't conducive to being indoors or relaxing, see if there's a new one that makes sense for you. There are so many resources online, ranging from yoga flows to baking tutorials, so you have a lot of options to pick from.
    • PSA: If you want to read more, I highly recommend seeing what you can borrow with Libby. Libby is an app that allows you to borrow ebooks and audiobooks instantly and for free from your local Orlando library!
  • Work on yourself. If you've put off updating your resume or practicing a second language, now is the perfect time to make self-improvements - whatever that means for you. For example, if you want to work on your physical health, there are now more workouts than ever available online, and they're available for free. You can also make the most of the upgraded kitchen found in several Orlando apartments to make healthy meals at home. If you have to spend this time at home, you may as well be better for it.
  • Organize your apartment. Orlando apartments can have a balcony or patio with a great view, but the view in your apartment may not be quite as nice. Use your extra time at home to get organized and tidy up, knocking out laundry, dishes, etc. It's also a good time to review your "to do" list, especially if there are items you've been putting off. Why not use this time to get that gallery wall set up in your bedroom?
  • Be social. This seems counterintuitive to "social distancing," but it's so important to maintain contact with your friends and family while you can't physically be together. Get creative with how you stay in touch. Have virtual meetups - after all, FaceTime up to 32 people - or start a group text with neighbors in nearby Orlando apartments. If you're feeling old school, you can even just call someone up on the phone.

Even if you put these tips into action, you'll likely have times where you feel upset or stressed out about the situation. I know there's a whole world out there waiting for you, and I promise - it'll still be there when we're ready and able to explore it again. We're in this together… just in our own homes.
