Although Portia Akins was born in Nashville, Tennessee, she spent the majority of her childhood in Florida. She lived in Tallahassee for several years before relocating to Jacksonville. After graduation, Portia decided to go back to Tallahassee to attend her dream school, Florida A&M University, and pursue a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism. She is very excited to be graduating in December 2019.
Portia served as a leasing agent for over a year, until she was recently promoted to leasing manager at a student housing community in Tallahassee. Working with renters first-hand, she sees just how difficult it is for new students to adjust to life away from home, living with strangers, and all the other aspects that come with moving into an apartment. Because of this, she's excited to join the iLS network team to help other students like herself find their perfect apartment.
Portia is an animal lover, and since moving to Tallahassee she's adopted two cats and one dog. Because of this, she understands the difficulties renters face when looking for pet-friendly apartments. She hopes to help renters find the right pet-friendly apartment for them, one where their furry, four-legged friends feel right at home!
Portia has also completed her fair share of internships during her four years at FAMU. This summer she will also be interning in Burbank, California at Nickelodeon Animation Studio.
